AKIPRESS.COM - The Astana Economic Forum and the 12th World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference planned for June 8-11 have been canceled in Kazakhstan.
The decision to cancel the Astana Economic Forum was made prior to spread of coronavirus in a move to cut costs, the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan said.
Finance Minister Alikhan Smailov said earlier the Astana Economic Forum was supposed to be held in the framework of the WTO Ministerial Conference with around 200 countries attending.
Kazakhstan has asked the World Trade Organization to consider another time and venue of the Ministerial Conference in connection with COVID-19 spread.
The WTO Director General and WTO General Council Chairman plan to hold consultations with the members to discuss the date and venue of the 12th Ministerial Conference.
