Prime Minister Abilgaziyev and government members pay tribute to Aksy tragedy victims

AKIPRESS.COM - Prime Minister Muhamedkaliy Abilgaziyev laid flowers at the monument in memory of those killed in the Aksy demonstration in 2002 and the 7 April 2010 at the Ala-Too central square.
The flower laying ceremony was held to pay tribute to the Aksy tragedy of 17 March 2002.
The Prime Minister was joined by First Vice Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov, Vice Prime Ministers Erkin Asrandiev, Akram Madumarov, Altynai Omurbekova, Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister's Office Samat Kylzhyev and other government members.
Protest actions were held in Aksy in January 2002, shortly after the local representative in parliament, Azimbek Beknazarov, was detained on power abuse charges. On March 17, several thousand people gathered in Aksy district to protest the detention. Demonstrators threw stones at police forces. The police fired shots into the crowd, killing four people. Another person was killed the next day, another man died of injuries he received during the clashes.
