AKIPRESS.COM - The Islamic Development Bank allocates $17 million to finance urgent purchase of medical equipment and supplies for hospitals under construction in Uzbekistan for coronavirus patients.
The funding is disbursed from the current IDB loan portfolio in the country, the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade reported.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and IDB President Dr Bandar Hajjar held talks during a videoconference on April 8.
The IDB is ready to provide additional support to Uzbekistan - to redirect saved $46 million from infrastructure projects for equipment for hospitals to treat coronavirus patients.
The IDB is ready to expand its assistance in this area, as well as using resources of its subsidiary institutions, such as International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation, Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector and others, the IDB President said.
The sides agreed to continue work on additional IDB financing for healthcare sector needs and support of small and medium-sized business for more than $140 million.
