AKIPRESS.COM - Quarantine measures are very likely to be continued in May in Uzbekistan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Jamshid Kuchkarov told a briefing in Tashkent.
"It is very hard to say now when the quarantine will be lifted. The quarantine is likely to be extended in April," the Minister said.
The current crisis caused by coronavirus pandemic is entirely different from the 2008 global crisis and the 1997 Asian crisis, he said.
The GDP growth will make 4.1-4.4% in the first quarter of this year, the Minister said. The industry growth rate made 4%, export dropped for almost 11%, import is 10% down, he added.
Uzbekistan has felt negative effects of the global economic situation since March, which affected the macroeconomic indexes of the country, the Deputy Prime Minister added.
"We expect the second quarter to be very hard for us. The quarantine restrictions occurred in April, but they are very likely to continue even in May," he said.
