AKIPRESS.COM - Migrant workers from Kyrgyzstan need support during quarantine, Gulzina Mamatakhunova, head of Moscow-based Migration Development Foundation, told AKIpress.
Her Foundation supports migrant workers from the Central Asian states since 2017.
"With start of the quarantine restrictions due to coronavirus, the number of people seeking assistance sharply increased. We provide support to migrant workers from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan - many of them remained jobless. Various people, sponsors support us. We are distributing food products among needy people now," she said.
The call center of the Foundation receives calls from 100-150 migrants every day, she said.
"Migrants live in rented apartments in groups of 10-20 people. Many of them remained without job and money. Their landlors demand to pay rent. I was told that around a week ago a 18-year-old young woman from Kyrgyzstan jumped out of window due to depression. People are confined to their rented apartments, they have nothing to eat. Besides, many have loan debts, they are phoned every day and are demanded to repay their debts," Mamatakhunova said.
"We desperately need volunteers, since we are unable to deliver food to all. Uzbekis help their citizens wells. But I do not see any intensification of efforts from the Kyrgyz and the Tajiks. I can't find Kyrgyz guys with cars, who may deliver food products to their compatriots," she said.
