AKIPRESS.COM - Ex-MP Kanybek Osmonaliyev was arrested as one of the organizers of the March 2 peaceful rally turned violent, the National Security Committee has said.
Another active participant of the protests was arrested, the statement said.
The detainees were taken to the remand prison on suspicion of coup attempt.
Investigation into the yesterday events continues.
About 1,500 people took to streets in Bishkek on March 2 to protest against politician Sadyr Japarov's prison sentence. The peaceful rally turned violent when a part of the protesters clashed with police heading to the White House, while other part remained at the venue calling for avoiding any provocations.
At around 6 pm, riot police started dispersal of the protesters and by 6:30 pm, the protesters were gone.
Rock throwing was reported during the March 2 events.
166 people were detained on March 2, 162 of them were released. Dozens, mainly policemen, were hurt.
Sadyr Japarov was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan for hostage taking by a group of persons using violence on 30 April 2019. His prison term beginning is 25 March 2017 and end is 5 October 2026.
