Over twenty people go missing in Lebap region after hurricane

AKIPRESS.COM - A lot people in Lebap velayat have been affected by the hurricane and have gone missing, including shepherds working in the sands, drivers and employees of "Turkmengaz". "Chronicles of Turkmenistan"also reported that a few herds of over 100 sheep each went missing. According to unconfirmed reports, about twenty people died. The sources of "Turkmen news" report that on 27 and 28 April, 2020 the victims were buried almost in each district of Turkmenabat.
Those injured as a result of the natural disaster are being admitted to various medical institutions in Turkmenabat whereas in rural areas no medical aid is being rendered. There is neither medical staff nor a minimal set of medications in paramedic stations which have been operating since the Soviet times.
The cotton crops have been damaged. This might mean that in the autumn people will be left without jobs.
The employed residents of the region say that the state insurance fees have always been deducted from their salaries. However, for the time being the payment of insurance coverage is not envisaged. Rumours are circulating that a part of their salaries might be deducted for relief efforts in the region.
The hurricane hit Turkmenistan on 27 April, 2020 with Lebap velayat being the most affected area. The communications lines got damaged resulting in no communication and the police cordoned off the roads leading to the affected area.
