Above 1 million cbm of water pumped out from flooded villages of Turkestan region for a day

AKIPRESS.COM - More than 1 million cubic meters of water were pumped out from flooded villages of Maktaaral district, Turkestan region of Kazakhstan for a day, the Emergency Situations Committee said.
Above 3 million cubic meters of water were pumped out from Nurlyjol, Yrysty, Janaturmys, Firdousi, Orgebas, Jantaksai villages in total. The temporary dams stretching for 21 km were built. 85,000 sacks were put up. Three collectors were installed to drain water, the Emergency Committee said.
1,574 emergency workers of Turkestan, Jambyl, Kyzylorda regions, National Guard, Defense Ministry, local authorities, Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan, volunteers, 280 vehicles, 160 motorized pumps are involved into the process of water removal from the flooded areas.
Evacuation of personal belongings, documents and properties of population, rescue of domestic animals is ongoing in the flooded areas.
Over 2,700 people still stay in the evacuation points in Maktaaral district.
The Sardoba dam in Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan burst on May 1, killing 4, one is still missing. On May 2, the water reached and flooded villages in Maktaaral district of Turkestan region. More than 1,030 houses, 3 schools, 5 kindergartens, 4 healthcare facilities, community center were damaged. Over 31,000 people were displaced. The emergency situation was declared in the area.
