AKIPRESS.COM - Three Kyrgyz border guards and one civilian were injured as a result of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border conflict on May 8. They all were taken to the hospital. A part of the house belonging to a citizen of Kyrgyzstan was burnt.
The border conflict in Kok-Tash village, Batken district on May 8 over the land plot. This is a disputed border area, but was used by the Kyrgyz side. A Kyrgyz farmer began sowing agricultural crops there, but citizens of Tajik village of Vorukh opposed it.
Around 30-40 citizens from both sides began throwing stones into each other in the result. Kyrgyz and Tajik border guards fired several warning shots into the air to prevent escalation of the conflict.
Some time later, the Tajik border guards opened fire from mortar in the direction of Kyrgyz border guards and citizens.
The shootout then stopped. The authorities of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan held talks to stabilize the situaiton.
Batken region governor Alisher Abdrakhmanov and Sughd region governor Rajobboi Ahmadzoda held talks. They called for a peaceful regulation of the conflict without escalation of the situation. The governors agreed to hold talks in near time.
The Vice Prime Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan discussed the conflict and the actions aimed to de-escalate the situation.
The three injured citizens of Kyrgyzstan were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds. One of them is in critical condition, another is in moderately severe condition.
The Border Troops of Tajikistan said 2 their border guards received severe wounds.
The Foreign Ministries of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan exchanged notes of protest.
