Damage for Kazakh agricultural producers caused by Sardoba dam burst estimated at $9.5 million

AKIPRESS.COM - The damage caused for agricultural producers by flooding following the Sardoba dam burst is estimated at 4.1 billion tenge ($9.5 million), Turkestan region administration said.
The agricultural fields occupying 7,639 hectares in Maktaaral district were damaged in total.
"The agricultural fields in 11 settlements across the district were destroyed. The list of affected agricultural producers includes more than 1,000 people. Compensations will be paid to agricultural producers for each type of crops," local agricultural administration chief Nurbek Badyrakov said.
297 domestic animals were killed, including 58 cows, 227 sheep and goats, 16 horses, 2 camels, 227 poultry heads.
On May 1, one of the walls of the Sardoba dam in Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan breached causing flooding of several settlements in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
