AKIPRESS.COM - An online presentation of the regional initiative of the International Organization for Migration (IMO) entitled "New Horizons of Cooperation amid COVID-19 Pandemic" was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on Thursday. The event gathered representatives of the MFA, State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, representatives of the IOM member states from Central Asia, Russia and Europe, IOM experts, and donor organizations.
Zeynal Hajiyev, IOM Regional Coordinator, Chief of IOM Missions in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, chaired the event.
During the event, the participants were informed about the expert analysis of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global social-economic and humanitarian situation.
The main goal of the meeting was the presentation and discussion of the draft IOM Regional initiative on coordinating the cooperation for overcoming the impacts of the pandemic, with special accent on the resolution of issues which are faced by migrants in current situation.
This initiative is based on the principles of the IOM Global Appeal to cooperation for overcoming the impacts of the pandemic and focuses on the resolution of regional migration problems.
