AKIPRESS.COM - Kazakhstan has stopped using hydroxychlorine in treatment of patients with COVID-19.
"In the 8th edition of the clinical protocol, use of hydroxychlorine and chloroquine was suspended until obtaining conclusive evidence of their benefit in the international studies following the WHO statement," Bahyt Kosherova, head of the clinical protocol developers group, told Sputnik Kazakhstan.
It was announced earlier that Kazakhstan purchased 18,000 pills of India's medication hydroxychlorine in February.
"This is a drug for malaria, it has immunosuppressive, anti-inflammatory effects for autoimmune diseases," Berik Sharip, Head of SK Pharmacy, said earlier.
The drug was included into coronavirus treatment protocols of many countries.
However, the study was published in Lancet magazine on May 22, which says hydroxychlorine and chloroquine were associated with decreased in-hospital survival and an increased frequency of ventricular arrhythmias when used for treatment of COVID-19.
