AKIPRESS.COM - U.S. Ambassador Daniel Rosenblum handed over essential relief supplies to the non-governmental charity foundation Sog'lom Avlod Uchun as part of the United States government's assistance to Uzbekistan in response to the partial collapse of the Sardoba Reservoir Dam. This humanitarian assistance will reach 2,000 beneficiary families affected by the disaster. Essential relief supply sets, donated by the U.S. government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID-OFDA), include food and non-food items (hygienic products, blankets, linen bedding, water purification tablets, etc.). All essential relief supplies were procured by Sog'lom Avlod in Uzbekistan from local vendors and packed into individual bags for each beneficiary family. Sog'lom Avlod will transport this humanitarian assistance to flood affected areas and distribute it through its branch office in the Syrdarya region.
In collaboration with Syrdarya region local authorities, Sog'lom Avlod has identified appropriate recipients and will ensure that the U.S. government assistance reaches those most in need. The main objective of this assistance is to maintain the safety, well-being, sanitary protection and personal hygiene of beneficiary families.
With this humanitarian assistance, the U.S. government will assist Uzbekistan in responding and recovering from the crisis by distributing food and other critical supplies to families in need who have been evacuated from their homes due to the burst dam.
In addition to supporting immediate relief efforts, USAID partners with the Government of Uzbekistan to diversify the country's economy and increase regional trade, address serious health threats, and build the government's capacity to respond to the population's needs.
