AKIPRESS.COM - The trains along China-Uzbekistan transport corridor will bypass Kazakhstan and Russia and will run through Kyrgyzstan. The official ceremony of launch of the first train of 25 containers was held on June 5 in Lanzhou, Gansu province of China. The train will run through Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan to Mary station in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan Railway Company said.
The Uzbek-Chinese joint venture Silk Road International will handle transportation of containers from the train station in China's Kashgar to the train station in Osh.
The deals were signed with major logistical companies and operators to secure competitive tariffs for transportation of container block trains along the multimodal transport corridor to China, Turkey, Europe, Russian and Baltic ports.
The new corridor is 4,380 km long. It is for 300 km shorter than the route through Kazakhstan's Khorgos. The new corridor shortens the time of travel for 5 days.
