AKIPRESS.COM - Halyk and Almaty Arenas in Almaty will be used as hospitals for COVID-19 patients, Public Health Department Chief Kamaljan Nadyrov told a briefing today.
"The shortage of hospital beds is observed in Almaty now in view of the growing number of patients. Provisional hospitals are almost 90% full, infectious diseases hospitals are 95% full. We consider arrangement of additional infectious diseases hospital beds. We plan to arrange up to 500 beds in Khalyk Arena," Nadyrov said.
A 150-bed infectious diseases hospital may be opened in the railway hospital, he added.
"So, in addition to 190 beds, we will open 650 more. In case the situation will worsen further, we may increase the number of beds for 300 at Halyk Arena. Hospital may be also arranged in Almaty Arena. All these options will allow to get up to 3,700 beds. Provisional hospitals may be increased for up to 1,000 beds. We will also consider establishment of provisional hospitals in dormitories," the Public Health Department Chief stated.
