Mongolia to finish construction of Tavantolgoy-Gashuunsuhait railway by 2022

AKIPRESS.COM - Speaker of the Parliament of Mongolia Gombojavyn Zandanshatar visited the construction site of the Tavantolgoy-Gashuunsuhait railway during working trip to Omnogov aimag.
The 240 km-long railway will run through the territory of Tsogtsetsiy, Bayan-Ovoo and Khanbogd somons of Omnogov aimag. It will have two railway stations and six intersections.
More than 300 engineers and technicians, 1,700 workers and 510 mechanisms are involved in the project.
Currently, earthworks are 92.3 percent complete, bridge construction is 56% ready. The end of construction works is planned in July 2020.
It was not possible to import necessary equipment and machinery due to the pandemic. Mongolian engineers build and operate part of the equipment for the railway construction on their own.
It will be possible to transport and export 30 million tons of coking coal and termal coal per year when the railway is built.
Mongolia will also be able to transport goods to port cities in China, including Huanghua, Tianjin, Qingdao and Jinzhou, as well as to third countries, allowing Mongolian mining companies to compete in the global market.
