AKIPRESS.COM - Hundreds of people remain at the checkpoints on the border with Uzbekistan. They cannot leave because of closed borders and absence of quarantine centers.
Video which features 500 Uzbek citizens stranded at the Russian-Kazakh border spread across social media. The video was made on August 2.
According to Uzbek citizens, they have lived at the border for 2 weeks. They do not know when they will be allowed to return.
"People are in difficult situation. It is not their fault that they have to live outside, without food and minimal life conditions, for at least 15 days. They ask bloggers, diplomats, Embassy, deputies, president to return them home," social media user who shared the video said.
The user notes that authorities of Uzbekistan could at least organize train rides to return citizens home. The government has to follow Constitution, which guarantees protection and safety to people, he says.
Uzbekistan has stopped air traffic and road transportation with other countries due to COVID-19 spread since March 16. Citizens are not allowed to leave country, foreigners to arrive.
Uzbek authorities also organized charter flights to repatriate citizens from abroad. All arrived have to follow 14-day quarantine at centers.
