Kyrgyzstan removes deaths caused by reasons other than COVID-19 from tally of lethal cases

AKIPRESS.COM - Around 29% of lethal cases were not caused by COVID-19 or pneumonia, Deputy Health Minister Madamin Karataev told a press briefing today.
The Ministry of Health revised statistics on lethal cases among patients with coronavirus. As of August 18 morning, the total number of lethal cases from COVID-19 in Kyrgyzstan made 1,498. The tally of lethal cases included deaths on the basis of positive PCR test result for coronavirus and pneumonia, which distorted the real number of lethal cases.
The Deputy Health Minister said several countries revised their statistics on lethal cases, UK and Spain among them.
"The Ministry of Health issued the order on July 30 to study causes of deaths among patients with coronavirus. Due to overload of medical workers earlier, the in-depth analysis of causes of fatalities among patients with COVID-19 and pneumonia was not made. The special commission studied medical records of the patients, who died presumably from COVID-19 and concurrent conditions. The analysis found that around 29% of lethal cases were not caused by COVID-19 and pneumonia. For instance, in UK, the number of lethal cases after calculation of cases on the basis of the new methodology dropped for 5,359, in Spain for 2,000 cases," the Deputy Health Minister said.
The number of people who died from causes other than coronavirus and pneumonia made 437, that is around 29%.
These other causes of deaths included:
- coronary heart disease - 358 cases;
- acute myocardial infarction - 24 cases;
- cerebrovascular accident - 13;
- acut kidney failure - 10;
- other causes - 32.
The analysis has found also 8 lethal cases were recorded twice.
Thus, after revision of lethal cases, the number of fatalities made 1,053 as of August 18. The lethality of cases made 2.4%. The mortality rate per 1 million made 162.
