AKIPRESS.COM - Former Deputy Health Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Abishev is suspected of embezzlement of more than 500 million tenger, Finance Ministry's financial monitoring committee chairman Janat Elimanov told a briefing.
"The investigation against former Deputy Health Minister Abishev, who is suspected of embezzlement of more than 500 million tenge provided for creation of information systems, is ongoing," Elimanov said.
Elimanov said the public funds were embezzled in late 2018, before the pandemic.
"Knowing the work was not completed, Abished signed the act of acceptance of completed works and approved payment. The information system does not function in fact. The damage was caused for the budget in this size," Janat Elimanov explained.
Other facts of spending of public funds in the Ministry of Health are checked now as part of the investigation, he added.
On August 2, the financial monitoring committee of the Finance Ministry of Kazakhstan confirmed detention of Deputy Health Minister Olzhas Abishev on embezzlement charges. The court sanctioned his 2-month detention.
