AKIPRESS.COM - President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his address to the 75th session of UN General Assembly on September 23 suggested establishment of UN committee for development of Afghanistan.
"We see Afghanistan as integral part of Central Asia. The High-Level Tashkent Conference on Afghanistan held in March 2018 became another stage in mobilization of international efforts in settlement of Afghanistan problem. We fully support the peaceful talks between political forces of Afghanistan that started in September in Doha. Hopefully, these talks will help bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan," Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
With the purpose of involvement of Afghanistan into regional economic integration processes, Uzbekistan launched such major infrastructure projects as construction of Surkhan-Puli-Khumri power transmission line and Mazar-e-Sharif railway to the Indian Ocean ports.
"Peace and stability in Afghanistan should remain in focus of the United Nations Organization. Only through joint efforts and in close cooperation hopes of people of Afghanistan may become reality. It is important to follow the principle from instability and destructions to peace and creation," the President of Uzbekistan underlined.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev suggested to establish UN standing committee that will listen to opinions and views of long-suffering nation. The main task of the committee should become facilitation of socio-economic development of Afghanistan.
In his speech, Shavkat Mirziyoyev also talked about relevant regional issues, COVID-19 pandemic, voiced several important initiatives in global and food security, protection of human rights and freedoms, climate change, eradication of extreme povery and reduction of poverty.
Shavkat Mirziyyoyev addressed the UN General Assembly in Uzbek language virtually due to COVID-19 pandemic.
