AKIPRESS.COM - Population of Kyrgyzstan is nearing old age threshold: at the beginning of 2020 the number of people aged 65 years and older made 317,000 or 4.9% of country population, according to the National Statistics Committee.
According to age classifications of the United Nations Organization, in case the proportion of people older 65 years is below 4% of total population, population of such country is considered young; when this proportion is between 4% and 7%, the population is at old age threshold; if the proportion is above 7%, the country population will be old.
This proportion is much lower than that in other CIS states: 6.8% in Azerbaijan, 7.3% in Kazakhstan, 11.9% in Armenia, 14.6% in Russia, 15.2% in Belarus.
According to UN estimations, such trend will appear in Kyrgyzstan by around 2030, when the share of people aged 65 years and above will near 7%.
