AKIPRESS.COM - The Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan issued a statement concerning the situation in Kyrgyzstan.
"Uzbekistan is seriously concerned over the situation and tension in the Kyrgyz Republic. Uzbekistan, as the closest neighbor and strategic partner, expresses hope for the soonest stabilization of the situation in fraternal Kyrgyzstan in line with the norms of the Constitution and national legislation of the country," the statement said.
Stability and sustainable development of Kyrgyzstan is an important factor of security and prosperity of the whole Central Asian region, the Foreign Ministry said, adding Uzbekistan is ready to provide all possible support to people of Kyrgyzstan.
A massive rally was held in Bishkek on October 5 in protest against parliamentary election results. The protesters demanded to cancel election results and schedule new elections. Police tried to disperse protesters, using water cannons, tear gas and stun grenades. After clashes with police for several hours, demonstrators seized the Parliament building overnight. The Central Election Commission invalidated the parliamentary election results on October 6.
