AKIPRESS.COM - Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is in touch with all parties to the conflict in Kyrgyzstan, RIA Novosti reports on October 7.
He said the situation after the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan is worrying and that Moscow hopes for peaceful resolution of the conflict.
"Elections by the way were acknowledged as democratic not only by international observers, but the OSCE representatives, and what happened afterwards is of course worrying. We hope for normal democratic political process to restore as soon as possible," Putin said in an interview with Russia 24.
"We are in contact with all parties to this conflict. I hope that after the stabilization of the political situation in the country we will continue implementation of all our plans with Kyrgyzstan as a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, we have a lot of joint jobs," Putin commented on the situation.
"We provide significant assistance to Kyrgyzstan in allocation of credit funds during accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, there are many issues related to customs, phytosanitary control, etc. We allocate significant resources to Kyrgyzstan to become a full and complete member of this organization," Putin said.
On October 5, thousands of protesters took to central square in Bishkek to protest against the results of parliamentary elections. In the evening of that day, clashes occurred between riot police and protesters. Some 900 were injured and 1 civilian died of injuries, according to the Ministry of Health.
By the night, a group of unknown people stormed the White House. Jailed politicians, including ex-President Almazbek Atambayev and ex-Prime Minister Sapar Isakov, were freed.
On October 6, the Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan invalidated parliamentary election results. Prime Minister and Speaker of Parliament resigned, new interim ones were elected. President Sooronbai Jeenbekov called events an illegal power grab and called all parties for a dialogue.
