Russian air base in Kyrgyzstan on heightened security alert

AKIPRESS.COM - The Russian air base in Kant is on heightened security alert due to escalation of internal political situation in Kyrgyzstan.
"For the purpose of prevention of provocations due to escalation of tension, extra precautions are taken against terror threats," the statement of the Russian air base said.
All planned activities are carried out according to the schedule, the statement said.
The air base in Kant is aviation component of the collective rapid response forces. It defends air space of the Collective Security Treaty Organization member states, Kyrgyzstan among them. The base has Su-25 combat aircrafts and MI-8 MTV helicopters.
