AKIPRESS.COM - The panel of judges of the Supreme Court canceled the court rulings in former Osh mayor Melis Myrzakmatov's case on October 8.
The sentences of previous court instances were canceled. The case was sent back to the first instance court for reconsideration.
Attorneys of former mayor of Osh Melis Myrzakmatov filed the cassation appeal to the Supreme Court. They asked to cancel the rulings of Osh city court and Osh regional court and to drop all charges against Myrzakmatov.
The Supreme Court postponed consideration of the cassational appeal several times.
On 22 July 2015, the Osh city court found Melis Myrzakmatov guilty of power abuse and sentenced him to 7 years in prison, confiscation of property.
On 17 August 2015, the Osh regional court sustained the ruling of the Osh city court.
In November 2014, the General Prosecutor's Office said Melis Myrzakmatov during his tenure as Osh mayor in violation of the budget law, law on status of Osh ordered to start financing and construction of the bridge. Two tenders were held unlawfully and contacts were awarded for construction of the bridge. The caused damage for the state exceeded 29 million soms.
On 27 November 2014, Melis Myrzakmatov was accused of power abuse in absentia. He was put on wanted list.
Melis Myrzakmatov arrived in Osh on the chartered plane from Turkey at night of October 6 following takeover of the White House in Bishkek after parliamentary election results protests.
