Constitutional Chamber to be asked to declare law delaying parliamentary elections unconstitutional

AKIPRESS.COM - Reforma party will file motion to the Constitutional Chamber asking to declare the law delaying the parliamentary elections unconstitutional, party leader Klara Sooronkulova said.
"We will file a motion when the law enters into force. We will ask the Constitutional Chamber to consider the case promptly, since the electoral process is limited with certain timeframe," Klara Sooronkulova explained.
She said the only body to counter the law delaying the parliamentary elections is the Constitutional Chamber now.
"But we are not sure that the Chamber will make a fair decision. We remember its decisions that fit those in power in 2016," she added.
The motion will specify numerous violations of the norms of the Constitution made during adoption of this law, she said.
"The passed law infringes our rights to be elected, to participate in discussion of draft laws. We also said usurpation of power is prohibited by the Constitution. This is another point to declare the passed law unconstitutional," Klara Sooronkulova said.
On October 21, the Central Election Commission scheduled the repeat parliamentary elections for December 20. On October 22, the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan passed the draft law in 3 readings that allowed to delay the parliamentary elections until June 1 due to the need to carry out consitutional reform. Sadyr Japarov signed the law the same day.
