AKIPRESS.COM - The action in protest against caricatures of Muhammad and the statement made by French President Emmanuel Macron was held in the town of Jalal-Abad, Turmush reported.
Around 20 people rallied outside the theater in Jalal-Abad today. They said those who mock Islam should be held accountable. Women and minors were seen among protesters, who were holding the posters saying I love Islam.
Munarbek Samarbekov, one of protesters, said he came from Tash-Kumyr. "The teacher was murdered in France, who showed caricatures of Muhammad to students. We disapprove this terrible murder, it is wrong. But we protest against caricatures of the Prophet. We are also outraged at the statement made by French President Emmanuel Macron, which is insulting for the whole Muslim world. We gathered here regardless of ethnic origin and place of residence," he said.
President Macron unveiled a plan to defend France's secular values against what he termed as "Islamist radicalism", saying the religion was "in crisis" all over the world, prompting a backlash from Muslim activists. Macron faced further backlash when after the murder of Samuel Paty, he defended the caricatures of Muhammad by Charlie Hebdo.
