AKIPRESS.COM - Instead of 300 vehicles, only about 10 cars a day pass through Irkeshtam and Torugart checkpoints on Kyrgyz-Chinese border, said Igor Golubev, Deputy Head of the Distance Drivers' Union.
He said the truck drivers are outraged by the government's works. Opening of the Torugart checkpoint was offered several times since the borders with China reopened, he said.
"Still 90% of cars are stranded at the border, 5 cars stand at Torugart checkpoint, up to 10 cars at Irkeshtam, which is so little for Kyrgyzstan. The figures are much higher in neighboring Kazakhstan, the capacity is much higher there, too," he said.
The Customs Service and the government have many options for solving the problem, such as opening additional customs terminals.
"We are offered to pass customs clearance in Naryn and Balykchy. But the problem is not in Kyrgyzstan but in China because of the epidemiological situation in the country," he added.
