Ancient burial mound found in Chuy region

AKIPRESS.COM - A burial mound was found on the territory of Ak-Suu rural district, Aida Abdykanova, historian and archaeologist, told AKIpress. The mound is a type of ancient burial monuments. Abdykanova suggested that the mound might date back to the Saka times.
She said that a local businessman decided to build a factory on the discovery site 2 months ago. Before rental, the land must be examined. The Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism has a list of experts and archeologists who travel to sites at such requests to examine.
"It was decided to take a drone picture of the area. We started to clean the site and found a very interesting structure. We found eight big rings, which are considered to be the symbol of the sun. Such mounds were built in memory of influential and rich people, who were buried with their jewelry, therefore such graves were usually robbed. During the excavation, the mound was found to be damaged. Two graves were found. They are hard to recognize, it seems that they were attacked several times," she said.
The diameter of the moun, is 64 meters and the distance between the rings is 1.6-2 meters, said Abdykanova.
"We will recommend this place to become rural district's ownership. It may not be excavated, but the structure of the mound is unique. And it can be used for tourism development. Historical tourism is usually always popular. Other marks were also found nearby, I think our finding will inspire other archaeologists to continue excavations," Abdykanova added.
