AKIPRESS.COM - In honor of writer Chingiz Aitmatov's birthday on December 12, employees of the Consulate General of the Kyrgyz Republic in Istanbul laid flowers at the writer's memorial the park named after Aitmatov, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The event was attended by Consul General of the Kyrgyz Republic in Istanbul Nurlan Abdrakhmanov, employees of the Consulate, Deputy Secretary General of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (CCTS) Sultan Rayev, and head of the municipality of Maltepe Ali Kilic.
Abdrakhmanov highlighted Aitmatov's contribution to the development and strengthening of relations between the Turkic peoples not only as a writer, but also as a diplomat.
Rayev thanked the Turkish side for honoring the memory of Aitmatov and all those who contributed to the installation of the memorial emphasizing the writer's contribution to the development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the Turkic peoples.
Ali Kilic thanked the Consulate General for the initiative to hold this event, mentioned Aitmatov's great personality.
Chingiz Aitmatov was a Soviet and Kyrgyz author who wrote in both Kyrgyz and Russian. He is one of the best known figures in Kyrgyzstan's literature. He was born on December 12, 1928 in Sheker village of Kyrgyzstan and died on June 10, 2008 in Germany.
