AKIPRESS.COM - Ata Meken party has sent complaint to General Prosecutor Kurmankul Zulushev about the decision made by district court judge Sabyr Soodanbekov, who acquitted two suspected rapists of underage girl in Ton district of Issyk-Kul region.
"This is not the first case when our judges take the side of rapists and go unpunished. It is known that lack of punishment always leads to repeated crimes. The given decision made by the judge speaks of that the court system in our country is plagued by incompetence, irresponsibility, corruption. The country is unable to defend its citizens, especially women and children," Ata Meken said.
"Kyrgyzstan obliged to protect human rights under international conventions. The given case demonstrates the country does not fulfill its obligations. The state has not taken any actions to defend the girl and to punish the judge in line with the laws of hte Kyrgyz Republic," Ata Meken said and demanded to hold judge Sabyr Soodonbekov accountable.
The prosecutor's office of Issyk-Kul region earlier said it would appeal against court rulings in 13-year-old-girl's multiple rape case.
One of the rapist was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months. Two other rapists were acquitted by the district court.
