Uzbekistan orders 2 million doses of coronavirus vaccine through COVAX

AKIPRESS.COM - Uzbekistan has ordered 2 million doses of coronavirus vaccines through COVAX global initiative, State Epidemiological Control and Public Health Service Deputy Director Nurmat Atabekov said in an interview with Uzbekistan 24 TV channel. "Uzbekistan has joined COVAX, a global mechanism for pooled procurement and equitable distribution of eventual COVID-19 vaccines. We submitted our application and it was accepted. As soon as the coronavirus vaccine approved by the World Health Organization emerges, Uzbekistan will be among first countries to get it. We applied for 2 million doses of coronavirus vaccine," Nurmat Atabekov said.
People older 65 years, medical workers, teachers will be vaccinated first, since these are risk groups, he added.
The third phase of clinical trials of Russian and Chinese vaccines is ongoing in Uzbekistan now, he stated.
"Specialists were trained for this trials. They include 21 doctors and 21 nurses. 5,000 doses of Chinese vaccine and 100,000 doses of Russian vaccine Sputnik V were brought to Uzbekistan for trials," Nurmat Atabekov stated.
