Uzbekistan to cancel monopoly for gas supplies

AKIPRESS.COM - Uzbekistan will cancel monopoly for natural gas supplies, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in his address to the nation and Parliament on December 29.
With growth of economic activities and incomes of population, the demand for energy resources is growing. The formation of wholesale electricity market with participation of public and private power plants and consumers will begin in 2021, he said.
"We will cancel monopoly and will introduce market mechanisms in natural gas supplies sphere. This way producers and importers will obtain the right to sell, wholesale buyers will be able to buy natural gas at stock exchange. Uztransgas will only transport gas," the President stressed.
Import duties will be canceled for liquefied gas to expand presence of private sector, the President said.
