AKIPRESS.COM - The military prosecutor's office detained former State National Security Committee Chairman Abdil Segizbaev on January 25.
The General Prosecutor's Office said it launched pre-trial investigation on January 14 into deliberate discreditation of MPs Almambet Shikmamatov, Aida Salianova, Omurbek Tekebayev on the basis of report by Almanbet Shikmamatov and others.
"The investigation was launched into power abuse and other unlawful actions by then Chairman of the State National Security Committee Abdil Segizbaev in connection with the so-called Belizegate," the General Prosecutor's Office said.
"The proof of committed unlawful actions by Abdil Segizbaev was obtained during pre-trial investigation conducted by the State National Security Committee and the military prosecutor's office," said the report. Segizbaev was detained and taken into the temporary detention facility of the Bishkek police department.
Belizegate is related with corruption charges brought by the State National Security Committee against parliamentarians from Ata Meken party, who allegedly aided sale of a stake in mobile operator AlfaTelecom affiliated with son of ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiev, Maksim Bakiev.
In 2016, then Chairman of the State National Security Committee Abdil Segizbaev informed President Atambayev about findings of the check into facts of corruption by certain officials. Particularly, Segizbaev reported about receipt of apostilles from official bodies of Belize which allegedly proved interest of the three former MPs in that Southfield company (presumably owned by Maksim Bakiev) could earn over $50 million from sale of non-nationalized yet stake in mobile operator Alfa Telecom (over 50% of shares) in April 2012.
Abdil Segizbaev gave a press conference on January 22 on the documents of the Belizegate.
"As for the so-called Belizegate, we received the documents for check from the President's Administration. We checked them and understood that all moments mentioned in them took place for 100% from 2011 to 2012. We returned the documents back to the President and then the check of these documents was passed to the General Prosecutor's Office," Segizbaev said.
"I think these documents entirely reflect what happened in that period," Segizbaev said.
