AKIPRESS.COM - Tajikistan halted export of electricity to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, but still continues electricity export to Tajikistan, Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma told reporters today, Asia-Plus reported. "Due to dry hydrological cycle since last year, the government introduced restrictions for electricity export in order to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for populationi n cold season," the Minister said.
Tajikistan reduced electricity export by 48%, he said.
Tajikistan generated 19.77 billion kWh of electricity in 2020. Some 1.528 billion kWh of electricity were exported for more than $56.4 million.
The country rations electricity in rural areas since January 5. Power outages last from 11.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m.
Such decision was made due to a water level 4 meters less in the Nurek water reservoir than in the same period of the previous year.
