AKIPRESS.COM - Head of the Central Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan Mufti Maksat Toktomushev was detained, the State National Security Committee reported. The National Security Committee detained the chief accountant of the Central Administration of Muslims earlier after he was caught red-handed while giving a bribe to the national security committee officers.
"Irrefutable evidence of involvement of Mufti Maksat Toktomushev into the given crime, as well as misuse of funds provided by pilgrims for hajj was obtained during investigation," said the report.
The Mufti was detained on February 10 and taken into custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
Maksat Toktomushev stepped down as Mufti of Kyrgyzstan on February 10. The Council of Ulemmas will consider the Mufti's resignation today.
The State National Security Committee announced disclosure of financial violations in the Central Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan. It said the leadership of the Administration misused funds obtained from pilgrims for hajj, provided this money to private financial institutions and gained profit every month.
