Uzbekistan to reconstruct collapsed Sardoba dam in Syrdarya region

AKIPRESS.COM - Sardoba water reservoir in Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan will be re-built after partial collapse of its wall in May 2020, Daryo news agency reported. The current condition of the dam is studied now to avoid recurrence of wall breach. The necessary technical and economic assessments are made now.
The reconstruction of the dam will be carried out in two stages. The start of reconstruction is yet to be announced.
The cracks in the dam slopes will be repaired in the first stage of the project and then reconstruction of the dam will start. Hydroscopic features of the dam slopes are studied now.
The Sardoba dam collapsed partially on 1 May 2020 with more than 70,000 people evacuated from the area. 4,435 houses were damaged by flood.
Charges were broughts against 17 people in connection with Sardoba dam collapse. 7 were taken into custody.
