AKIPRESS.COM - 67 kilograms of narcotic drugs were seized in Kyrgyzstan in the first 2 months of 2021, said Deputy Minister of Interior Mirlan Kanimetov during the parliament session on Feb 17.
MP Azizbek Tursunbayev noted that Afghanistan grows 3,000 tons of opium, which mainly passes through Kyrgyzstan. "Your numbers are in kilograms. Don't you think the numbers are small?" he asked.
Kanimetov replied that there two routes for trafficking drugs grown in Afghanistan: the Northern route and the Balkan route. The small part of the trafficking goes through the northern route that goes through Kyrgyzstan, he said.
In 2020, eight laboratories producing narcotic drugs were closed, said Kanimetov. These laboratories mainly produced synthetic drugs. "They were closed down and brought to justice," he said.
