Kyrgyz Interior Ministry prepares bill barring organized crime group members from presidency, parliament, local councils

AKIPRESS.COM - The Ministry of the Interior of Kyrgyzstan has drafted the bill on counteraction to organized crime, which was published for public discussion. The main emphasis in the bill is prohibition for members of organized crime groups to be elected as President of Kyrgyzstan, members of Parliament and local councils.
The Interior Ministry has prepared the respective amendments to the law on presidential and parliamentary elections, local council elections, law on civil and municipal service.
According to the Central Election Commission, 221 or 11.6% of 1,912 candidates in the past October parliamentary elections had convictions. This means every 8th candidate for MP had conviction.
