AKIPRESS.COM - The first ever photovoltaic power plant will be built in Uzbekistan. Its inauguration is planned in autumn 2021, local media reported. Construction of the solar farm has started already in Navoi region by Masdar company. The generated electricity will cost 2.7 cents for 1 kWh.
The plant is expected to be launched in late October. It was not announced yet what companies and organizations will receive electricity from the solar farm.
The plant will produce 220 GWh of electricity a year, which would suffice for supply of more than 31,000 households with electricity.
Operatio of the plant will allow to prevent emission of 156,000 metric tons of greenhouses a year.
300,000 photovoltaic panels will be installed on the area of 268 ha 35 km to the east of Navoi.
Uzbekistan produces 85% of electricity at thermal power plants.
