AKIPRESS.COM - President Sadyr Japarov congratulated the Kyrgyz people on Ak Kalpak Day (national headdress day) marked on March 5.
The Ak Kalpak Day commemorative date was established on June 29, 2016 by the Kyrgyz parliament with the purpose to preserve and pay tribute to the significance of the national headdress, support national traditions and awaken people's pride in Kyrgyz culture, the statement said.
In 2019, traditional skills and knowledge on manufacturing and wearing of the men's headgear Ak Kalpak were added to the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which is a great honor for our compatriots, Japarov noted.
"It is great that every year our national costumes are getting increasingly popular," he said.
