AKIPRESS.COM - Some 2.6 million doses of coronavirus vaccine will be delivered to Kyrgyzstan through COVAX program, Minister of Health and Social Development Alymkadyr Beishenaliev told a press conference in Bishkek on March 29.
The Minister said Kyrgyzstan became an official participant of COVAX program in September.
"We were supposed to receive 1.2 million doses within this program, but we requested more and we will receive 2.6 million doses under this program," Health Minister Beishenaliev said.
"At first, we were offered 30,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine, but the cold chain of this vaccine is -70°C. We do not have such equipment and for this reason asked for another vaccine. There are around 9 vaccines offered through this program. We were offered AstraZeneca vaccine then, which was supposed to arrive in March. However, European countries refuse from this vaccine due to side effects. We asked information on this vaccine and possible adverse effects. If they say there are no side effects, we will begin talks on supplies," the Health Minister said.
