AKIPRESS.COM - Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev today held a phone conversation with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Asia, Head of the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Natalia Gherman on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border situation.
Foreign Minister Kazakbaev said the agreement was reached between sides on cease of fire and regulation of the situation through talks. Minister Kazakbaev informed the UN Secretary General's Special Representative about the tensions of April 29 and the current situation in the border areas of Kyrgyzstan.
Minister Kazakbaev noted commitment of Kyrgyzstan to international and bilateral obligations and agreements.
The Foreign Minister said both sides have casualties. Thousands were displaced, houses and infrastructure were destroyed in Kyrgyzstan. Minister Kazakbaev expressed hope for UN assistance for displaced citizens, restoration of destroyed facilities.
These works will become a reliable basis for sustainable peace, Minister Kazakbaev said. He suggested to reformat focus of a part of programs and projects of UN agencies on post-conflict reconstruction in Batken region.
Head of the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy Natalia Gherman welcomed the agreement reached between the sides on ceasefire and signing of the protocol on regulation of the armed conflict. She noted contribution of Kyrgyzstan into normalization of the situation.
Natalia Gherman expressed readiness of UN agencies to provide technical assistance to the parties of the conflict in implementation of the reached agreements within the scope of existing regional and bilateral programs.
She said the UN Secretary General follows the situation on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The UN Headquarters is aware about the agreement on ceasefire reached by the countries, she said.
The UN urges both sides to continue direct negotiations for peaceful regulation of any outstanding issues.
