AKIPRESS.COM - 10 Kyrgyz citizens taken captive by the Tajik side were tortured, the director of the National Torture Prevention Center Bakyt Rysbekov said on May 6. He and center staff members are currently in the Batken region. They interviewed Kyrgyz citizens who were taken captive by Tajiks on April 29 during the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. Head of the Kyrgyz village International Myrzabek Jumabekov was among them. He told Turmush news agency about torture.
According to human rights activists, the Kyrgyz nationals were subjected to torture, they were beaten up and given no food or water.
The captives were released only in the evening of May 1. Now they are being treated in the traumatology department of the Leilek hospital, the Center said.
The Kyrgyz nationals were released after negotiations. At the border, they were met by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Suyun Omurzakov and Major General Ibrohimzoda Nozim, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan.
