1 billion tons of waste dumped on Davydov and Lysyi glaciers before 2011: Japarov

AKIPRESS.COM - Before the work of the 2003 parliamentary commission headed by then-MP Sadyr Japarov, no one knew that wastes at Kumtor were dumped on glaciers, said Chairman of the State Commission on Kumtor Akylbek Japarov at the session of the Parliament on May 17.
No one knew that the glaciers were being destroyed.
"Until 2011, 1 billion tons of waste had been dumped on the Davydov and Lysyi glaciers. In 2004, a state commission headed by Temir Sariev confirmed that, but a fine for 256 billion soms of $5 billion has still not been paid," he said.
The General Prosecutor's Office launched a criminal probe, which was dropped two years later.
