AKIPRESS.COM - The documents concerning ex-Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov have not yet been submitted to the court, his lawyer Amantur Abdyrakhmanov told Tazabek. Court must make a ruling on his detention within 48 hours of his arrest, he said.
Babanov was detained on suspicion of corruption concerning Kumtor project, the State National Security Committee said on May 31.
The interdepartmental investigative group is investigating the facts of corruption at different stages of implementation of the project on Kumtor mine development.
"He received a summons scheduled for 11 am. We showed up at 11 am as law-abiding citizens. First he was questioned as a witness," he said. Babanov was asked general questions regarding his activities was a Prime Minister from December 2011 to August 2012. Questions regarding Kumtor were asked, said Abdyrakhmanov noting that he cannot disclose everything.
At the end of interrogation, Babanov was handed an undertaking to appear, which obliges the witness to show up every time they get summons. "At some point there was a pause, the investigator asked for time, left and came back after 10 minutes and told us that it was decided to detain him," Abdyrakhmanov added.
