AKIPRESS.COM - Residents of Alamedin and Sokuluk districts are protesting in front of the government building in Bishkek on May 14 due to water shortage in the canals. About 200 people gathered to ask authorities to distribute water among the residents of Alamedin and Sokuluk districts evenly.
"We want authorities to give us water and we will divide it among ourselves. We are protecting the water ourselves, so it won't be stolen. We read on the news that Kyrgyzstan is giving away water to Kazakhstan. Why are you doing so while it's not enough for your own people?" said one of the residents.
Alymkul Kuluev, head of the Agro-Industrial Complex and Ecology Department of the President's Administration, addressed the protesters.
"A low water problem is in all over the country. We have been dealing with these issues for 10 days. Within 5 days we will solve your problem. Now we will all go to the hydropost and decide how many cubic meters of water to give to each district," he said.
