AKIPRESS.COM - Residents of Kirgizia-1 neighborhood of Bishkek took to streets today to raise awareness of the problem with lack of water. They said they face water shortage for four years every time the irrigation season starts.
"Every year we gather for the meeting. Every year in summer time we have no irrigation or drinking water. Everyone has vegetable gardens, and there is nothing to drink," one of the residents said.
Sharapat Kurmanaliyeva, the chief of the Ala-Archa gauging station, said this year the water shortage is everywhere. All the water goes to Sokuluk town, because it has large crops, the harvest of which feeds the entire city.
She promised to provide water for the neighborhood borrowing it from Sokuluk for 24 hours today. "Perhaps we will set a schedule for water supply once a week," Kurmanalieva told the residents.
