AKIPRESS.COM - Supporters of ex-PM Omurbek Babanov gathered outside the Bishkek city court on June 22. The court will consider motion to change Babanov's detention in GKNB facility to house arrest.
Ex-MP Maksat Sabirov told reporters that Babanov returned $20 million in loans, 16 hectares of land near the Kumtor mine, and created a commission to look into the mine's work.
"Should one go to jail for this? Today the court should release Babanov under house arrest," the MP thinks.
Babanov was detained on May 31 on suspicion of corruption as part of the criminal probe looking into corruption at different stages of the Kumtor mine development.
On June 2, Pervomai district court of Bishkek ruled to arrest Babanov for 2 months until July 31.
