AKIPRESS.COM - Amid spike in daily new coronavirus cases and possible outbreak of the Delta coronavirus variant (Indian strain) in Nur-Sultan, the city authorities are boosting quarantine.
54 patients in Nur-Sultan were selected for additional testing. 56% of them are suspected of having Delta strain, the mayor's office of the capital of Kazakhstan said.
Additional quarantine restrictions will be introduced in the capital to ensure the safety of the citizens, mayor of Nur-Sultan Altai Kulginov said.
Kulginov met with the heads of public utilities, construction companies, principals of schools, kindergartens, colleges, shopping malls/travel shops, representatives of NGOs and other large enterprises to urge vaccination. Only when collective immunity is formed their activities will not be suspended and if the number of vaccinated people is low, work at these facilities will be stopped, he said.
The new Delta mutation is the highly contagious and spreads faster. The Delta virus symptoms include headache, sore throat, runny nose and fever. More "traditional" coronavirus symptoms such as a cough and loss of smell were much rarer now. Younger people experience Delta more of a bad cold.
